Comtex 2000
| A new concept for
packing returned mail order products |
The Comtex machine is fully automatic in operation and uses centre
folded film producing a bag which is sealed on 3 sides. The machine
is formatted inline and is controlled by means of light barriers.
Many different products within the bounds of the sealing area can be
randomly packed.
The products can vary in length, width and height and can be
presented to the machine in a random format. In its home position
the machine is adjustable to the maximum possible bag width.
Dependent upon the product width, a film overhang is produced which
is sealed and cut off in the side trim sealing station. By means of
scanning the length of the product during the packaging process, a
neat close profiled bag is produced.
The product is ready for storage and despatch and can be returned
into the main system. This system is widely used and originates from
mail order textile companies, who often are using this system for
returned goods.
The use of coloured films allows the customer the opportunity to use
standard postal systems, it is also possible to pack other products
like books, magazines with promotional products onserted.
Special features of the Comtex 2000 are :
- Speed packaging capacity of 1200 products per hour dependent
on product sizes
- Product sizes can vary from 150mm x 150mm x 5mm up to 650mm
x 395mm x 5mm and approx 575mm x 320mm x 120mm and can be
randomly packed varying in length, width and height.
- The system can be supplied with a fully automatic labelling
system and can be integrated with a data connection from the
host computer. Thus supplying computer generated labels onto the
packed product.
- High resolution light curtains are used to scan the product
into the system. The system controls the products fully
automatically from the infeed section and product indexes
without operator intervention. A reject station or by pass
station can be used.

Poly bags and window label pockets in transparent or coloured PE
polyethylene films, film thickness 30 – 40 microns.
During the process through the department for return goods, the
products that are to be packed are provided with usually a bar code,
after this process, the product will be placed upon a conveyor
system from which it will be transferred into the packaging machine.
It is possible to add to this conveyor system various work stations.
The labelling system receives data from the host PC thus generating
the required addressing info and applying the label to the product.
This system can be scanned to check that the correct address and
also that the label has been actually applied to the product.
Comtex 2000 is complete with the following technical features:
- Operator touch panel with graphic guidance.
- Side trim sealing unit complete with servo drive for higher
production outputs and exact positioning of the film bag on the
side trim sealing unit.
- Product positioning is produced using high quality high
speed exact light curtains.
- The measuring of the product lengths through the machine is
combined.
- If there is an error in the bag length, either oversized or
not correctly sealed, the machine will automatically reject the
product by means of a telescopic conveyor allowing for continued
production without stoppages.
- The sealing jaw cutting knife is applied with a special
coating for producing fine sealing fins.
- Constantly heated sealing jaw with digital temperature
control.
- The packaging process is improved by means of a shortened
lateral film transport as well as the optimization of length of
the conveyors inside the machine.
- The individual packaging stations are synchronized in
operation allowing for a higher production output to be
achieved.
